New 1 Wire Tutorial for Home Assistant
We have added a new tutorial to our Knowledge Base for Home Assistant.
Using 1 Wire with Home Assistant and the Raspberry Pi OS
1-Wire is a communication protocol developed by Maxim Integrated, designed for simple and efficient data transmission over a single wire, minimizing the need for multiple wires in electronic systems. This low-cost and low-power protocol enables communication with various sensors, memory devices, and other peripherals. The unique feature of 1-Wire is that it combines both data and power on the same wire, simplifying wiring and reducing complexity in connected systems.
Home Assistant is an open-source home automation platform that serves as a central hub for managing and controlling smart devices within a household. Its primary function is to integrate a wide range of devices and technologies, allowing users to create a cohesive and personalized smart home experience. Home Assistant supports an extensive list of compatible devices and protocols, providing flexibility and interoperability.
Our new tutorial goes through the steps needed to integrate 1-Wire sensors with Home Assistant using our popular 1 Wire Pi Plus and 1 Wire Pi Zero development boards. Using a Raspberry Pi or other compatible small board computer you can connect a wide range of sensors and devices to Home Assistant over a 1-Wire network.
